Science Café SG is a free event that recurs every last Thursday of the month. Scientists and Science professionals are invited to speak in a casual setting where everyone can learn and discuss the scientific issues of the day.

Responsible Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (RCULA)

This talk will revolve around the local lab animal regulations (Animals and Birds Act), guiding principles (NACLAR – National Advisory Committee on Laboratory Animal Research) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). We will also discuss the principles of the 3Rs- Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.
The National Advisory Committee on Laboratory Animal Research (NACLAR) was established in 2003 to develop national guidelines for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes in Singapore. The Committee comprises of representatives from academia, research organizations, AVA, as well as legal and ethical specialists.
About the Speaker
Yi Quan, (Shawn) TAY is both the current President of AFLAS (Asian Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations) and SALAS (Singapore Association for Laboratory Animal Science). He is currently organizing the 7th AFLAS Congress Conference in Singapore during 7th to 11th November 2016 with conference delegates attending from 11 AFLAS members’ countries laboratory animal science associations. He has an active interest in training, adult learning and continuing education.
