Welcome to May’s Tête-à-Tête special! In this session, we’re tracing back our language roots to explore our local language in a Singlish 101 special!
A ton of fun awaits as we attempt to break down the logic behind our “lahs”, “lohs”, “mah”, “meh” and more!
E-Ching, currently a PhD Linguistics candidate at Yale University, will be conducting a Singlish 101 session to break down the semantics of our “native” language, Singlish! Prepare your mind to absorb some of the following: syntactic elision, tonal assignment, discourse particles, vocabulary and etiquette. Of Singlish, yes. True story.
Come join us as we connect with both locals and foreigners/visitors alike in this special Tête-à-Tête session which will begin with a short “101 session” followed by some practice and interaction. Definitely invite along a friend who is not native to Singapore!
